received my new NEC and it shows up in my computer as a DVD-RW.
IN the hardware settings it shows same.

However, when flashed with the new riplock (unlock) firmware from Dangerous Brothers(thanks) it now shows up in my computer as a cd-rom. Hardware settings still show a dvd-rw.

What gives? Why the change in my computer?

Does it still burn dvd's ok?? If so, I wouldn't worry too much about how it shows up. My Memorex burner was made by Pioneer, so when I flashed it to unlock it, I had to convert it to true Pioneer first so that the unlock would work. I have seen names change from flashing but not what yours did. If by chance it doesn't burn dvd's anymore, you got the wrong firmware. I hope thats not the case.
