I don't think you'll be able to conserve more space, no.

Ideally You should store them in DVD cases !- If space is at a premium you can use the Thin-pak Type like these here http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=367197- I have used them and found them to work vey well and Verbatim is a name you can trust INMHO !!! - You can also Find Generic Thin-pak Type cases at the Dollar Tree stores But I find these are flimsier and more Flexible than the verbatim ones . Standard size dvd cases are the ticket if you don't have either space limitations or a vast collection of movies ,Yet !!!!? THey offer protection and durability and they are what most Commercially produced dvd movies , software. and games come in as you already know . They can be had from various retailers & suppliers ONLINE & Brick & Mortar stores in various colors and styles besides the basic Black ones - double , triple , & multiple cases which are good for box sets /comptete seasons of Tv-shows ect... But you generally have to buy those in multiple of 100 or possibly 50 depending on the vendors ? You can get them for free if you don't mind a little{ Dirty Work} See the dumspter diving thread for more information on this !! other than Dvd cases , you can put them in the slim type cd cases - see link http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=392528- but I find them not very durable and therefore I don't recommend them too highly ! Other than the above mentioned options There are CD/DVD Wallets/Binders of various sized from 24 or so to multiple hundreds and these are'nt too bad provided you are'nt rough in handling them and stay at the 200-240 dvd/cd size too much above that and they are unwieldy and heavy ! The things to look for are Zipper quality ( Most zip up to close) quality of construction , ect.., But if you are'nt going to store them in the dvd cases - and have a large collection here is what I would look into - http://www.supermediastore.com/cd-dvd-storage-case.html- The DJ type Hard storage/travel cases . They are available in sizes from 200-up and protect from dust and damage all that stuff !!! Hopefully one of these options willwork for your situation and needs Good luck and welcome aboard !!!

Long landscaping spikes nailed deep into the drywall provide a fun and decorative alternative to spindles, cases, and organizers. You can sort alphabetically, or, as I do, organize by genre with my prono nearer the ceiling. One caveat-Beware of hidden power cabling; you never know what those construction guys are putting behind your wall. And if, by chance, you should come across a power cable with your spike, do not attempt to withdraw it; it's always best to call a plumbing professional for site-specific work.

I've used 2 cases, 4 cases, and 8 cases, but I've finally settled on binder pages.

I use the double sided CD/DVD binder pages with sheet holders in between.

Many of the DVDs I have are sets, and I put the set information on 8.5 x 11 sheets in the sheet protectors in between the binder pages.

For single DVD I created a Word template that divides the sheet into 4 sections and I can put the DVD information into one of the 4 sections of the sheet.

I can store about 128 DVDs (16 binder pages) including sheet protectors into a 2" binder.

I put them into binders, and label each sleave according to what disc goes into it so I know if some are missing.A brother labeler suffices very nicely.

Pulling them in and out can scratch them.

Body Glove makes a very nice cd/dvd binder-wallet.

My latest wallets held 336 discs and were freebies from Pepsi Bottle cap codes. They're Case Logic and not as nice as bodyglove, but the price was right.

Then I just put them on the book shelf. I need to sort out all my binders according to category, but that'd take me all day.

I do like Rippdogg's post. Instead of the spikes, get a pegboard with extra long single pegs.Make sure you get the heavy duty pegboard and not the cheap stuff, LOL!

The binder method would save me a ton of space but I'm already so entrenched with cases it wouldn't make sense now. I've got it set up so everyone in the family has a blank case with their personal color code and when they pull a movie they slide in their blank, effectively telling me who has it. I guess maybe I've got a little librarian in me.

I plan on donating my cases or selling them on eBay. The cases didn't cost much so it's not too painful, and I'm reclaiming a whole heck of a lot of bookshelf space!!!

I have all my dvds organized with Movienizer, I enter a title (or just the barcode of the dvd) and the program automatically downloads and saves info about the movie, including actors, covers, photos, you can enter technical info as well. After I have it organized, I can now find any movie in my collection with one click.
