The only player/recorder that can now use the disc is the original Sonycamcorder that recorded to it. Put it back into the Sony and finalize it there.
"Finalizing" is merely writing the table of contents to the disc so that all other players can tell what is on the disc and where it is. You may have to record a small portion of video to add to the disc, but the Sony should be able to finalize it and make it playable on other DVD players.
Have since identified when trying to do that that the Handycam displays an error message indicating 'dirty disc' ..... it was brand new !!!
Have been able to play portions of the disk via the Handycam (some very jerky) but it eventually 'hangs'.
Has anyone previously had problems with disks straight out of the box, 2 of the disks in the 3 pack seem stuffed (have tried older -/+RW disks and they perform OK so assume tge Handycam is not the problem.
Those symptoms indicate that the disc is not compatible with your camcorder or that the disc is flawed. Since two out of three are "bad," that very strongly suggests that incompatibility is the more likely reason. You will have to try a different brand of disc, but experiment with one before recording anything important.
(Note: I don't remember if that's one of the forums that you have to register for -- for free! -- to be able to read. It's another video forum, with both free and paid areas. Some can be read without registering, some require free registration.)
Thanks,
I'll try your process BUT have a feeling that the actual disks (Sony) may be faulty ... tried some older disks without any problem so assume it is not a Handycam/DVD Player or PC problem.
Anyone aware of problems with Sony disks in the past ????
Sony "made in Taiwan" = good (very few to no legitimate complaints)
Sony "made in Malaysia" = not good (awful)
Sony "made in India" = mixed reviews, mostly okay
Sony "made in Japan" = excellent, but no longer made
