Help, Windows XP open and save dialog crashes!

I first used IE8 and tried to save an image via save as windows dialog and it then hanged and crashed. From then on whenever i try to save and image, whether it might be pressing 'save' or 'cancel' the dialog crashes snd the imsge doesn't save.

I think that the windows dialog is corrupt because whatever program i use, as long as it goes through to using the save or open windows dialog, it crashes. Therefore i cannot use images, which is crucial since i do graphical work! It'll sometimes save if i don't change the directory of the set folder the dialog shows.

I'm not too knowledgeable about computers, but i have tried to fix the issue by using the 'sfc /scannow' method, but it doesn't fix it. At the moment i just use workarounds, i.e dragging images files straight to Photoshop to open them, instead of via dialog. It's annoying with certain software, where the only option to open a file is to use the dialog.

So does anyone know my issue and how to fix it? Sorry for the long post, it's somewhat hard for me to explain.
