Dvd Drive ONLY reads burnt media -

Evening folks! So it's odd, it seems, that my lite-on ($25 OEM special from newegg) will only read burnt media. It wont read any normal dvds/cds, well, every once in a while it does, but it's not very often. What's even more odd, is that I have a Sony dvd drive (both IDE) that acts the same exact way when I swap it in my tower. This occurs both in windows xp pro sp3, and in Ubuntu 8.04/8.10 and fedora!

I've reinstalled all of the OS's and still no change. Oh, should also mention that it has no problems burning cd's, not sure about dvd's though, I don't often need that with my mythbox running.

Has anyone come across this problem? I googled it, but the only results I get are "...drive wont read burnt media" and my problem is the opposite lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
