My question is if DVD-ROM readers have there firmware riplocked like the DVD-ROM RW ones?
I like to rip dvd films on to my PC, but the problem is that my
LG GSA-H42N does it very slow.
I've read that people are not aware that DVD-ROM redaers are riplocked, Is this true?
Thank you.

don't know where some people get their ideas..

sounds to me like dma is disabled on that drive or it's a slow one.. 1x2x4x max maybe.

If the disks are trashed after 30 read errors windoze will automatically disable dma shoving the drive into PIO mode.

also having crap like securom on your machine will well and truly screw up ripping capabilities.
