I keep on seeing PSX to Dvd for PSP. but is there a way to convert a PSX image and/or cue to an ISO so it would be able to read from a DVD-R? the reason I am asking is because my slim ps2 won't read cds or cd-rs. is there a way to fix that? when i stick the CD Swap in it just turns on and skips with the laser.

For the psp it is just using a program to convert to ISO, so that you can then make an eboot for the PSP.
For PS2, it is not possible to convert PS1 games to DVD
ffgriever is working on an emulator of sorts for the PS2, but it is still in the works and being tested.
could be up to a year before he ever releases it.
Have you tried cleaning the laser.
If that doesn't fix it, you may need a new laser.
They aren't expensive and are easy to change.

Worst case scenario: Play your PSX games on your PC with emulators like PsX emulator.

OK, I know this response is somewhat late, but this answer will definitely help you. First, for lens cleaning I recommend a can of air for dust-busting the lens & your discs. Any one-stop store's computer area will have some.
& now, for the real help, & I'm saying now that I'm somewhat disappointed that nobody else has thought of this yet. Actually, I'll explain what is probably causing the problem first. There is the off-hand chance that the cause of your problem isn't the following, but it probably is. The cause is probably that your PS2's lens array (can't remember if that is it's real name) has become somewhat loose. This is because of poor structural design for the PS2's lens array compared to some other systems. The lens uses a different distance from a CD disc than for a DVD disc. When you first put ANY disc in it, the lens is moved slightly away (& closer if necessary) so that the PS2 can identify if the disc is a CD or a DVD. If the lens array has become somewhat loose, then if you give it a CD the lens array will slightly tilt (the fat ones more than the slim ones) when the PS2 tries to find out if it's a CD or a DVD. The tilt will usually cause a "disc read error".
& the solution:
While the ultimate solution is to take the PS2 to a PS2 repair place (can't remember what it's called) & ask them if they can fix/replace it's lens array, there is also this method.
1) Before you put any disc in the PS2, carefully stand it on it's left side. Don't worry, you'll put it back down in a minute.
2) Using the controller, go into the PS2 memory card screen, but NOT inside a memory card.
3) Put in the CD that you want to play & close the lid/tray.
4) Wait until a blue disc (PS2), black disc (PS1), or silver (I think) disc (audio) shows up on your tv. When it does show up, the PS2 'locks' the lens array into position until you reset the PS2. (Always reset the PS2 before turning it off.) When it shows up on your tv, gently put the PS2 back down flat. If your floor has a carpet, put your PS2 on a flat surface like a book or something so that it's bottom vents can breath better.
5) Now just click on the on-screen disc.
You are thinker than you drunk you are.

Have you actually tried this?
Usually the reason it won't read CD discs anymore is the laser is weak or needs cleaning.
The best guide on the laser is here, and personally I don't believe in adjusting the voltage etc.
If its failing, then just replace it.
I have personally adjusted the cogwheel etc on the PS2 to prolong it for awhile, but eventually just replaced the laser.

This is what happens, but it sometimes happens with DVD's as well:
When i turn it on it does that skipping sound, and the disk struggles to turn. but for some reason, when i put in Marvel Vs Capcom for PSX, it reads it 100% of the time, but when i put in Resident Evil 2 in, it doesn't read. I also tried my Swap Magic CD version, it doesn't work at all.
i found ways to configure the laser, but it sounds sketchy to where if i did, i would have my old Fat ps2 next to it. The Ribbons came off, and it just seems impossible to re-hook them, since they loop underneath.

Yes, I have used this method before, but only with other peoples' much older PS2s. (I also used to own an older PS2, but mine never had any problems.) That solution didn't help a few of those PS2s, but when it doesn't, sometimes the reason is that the PS2's lens array is severely loose. Obviously, sometimes something(s) else is causing the problem, but no one has denied that.

I have actually managed to repair my FAT ps2. the only thing that broke out of it all was the fan, so what happened was that it worked for about 20 minutes, then just faded off and blinked until i had to pull the plug, so I'm happy that my old ps2 works (somewhat) just hope it still reads cd-rs. thanks for everyones info and help on this topic.
