This may sound like a newbie question and maybe is it. I am trying to watch Quantum of Solace on my desktop DVD drive. Wife is watching some chic flick on the DVR with her friends and I really would rather NOT watch a marathon of Sex in the City.... This is the DVD-9 version, 2 disc special edition retail version. The drive I am trying to watch it on is a NEC-3550 Dual Layer Burner. My problem is when I pop the DVD in my drive, neither WMP or my computer recognize that the drive has a disc in it, even though the HDD light and DVD light are actively blinking like it is trying to read it. Then it just stops. Dosen't do anything, and doesn't "see" the disc at all. I'm not even trying to rip it I just want to watch the damn thing so I don't have to suffer through estrogen night at my house. Also I should note: I stuck an older DVD in the drive, and even one that I've ripped previously and they all work just fine. I tried to view the files on the disc using explorer and..... nothing. All my other older DVD's I can browse the file structures on the disc just fine with no problem. DVDFAB doesn't even recognize the disc. Is this an issue with the encryption on the disc itself? It plays just fine in my standalone DVD player.
I've always had at least one dedicated dvd-rom drive for ripping, in fact my main ripping drive is still in heavy use after 6 or so years, though i do have an old dvd burner that i also use for ripping. I do sometimes get discs that the burner won't recognise but the dvd-rom always reads and rips those discs fine
