This bothers me. Is there a program, either a purchased product or a free download that will enable one to separate out existing embedded subtitles so that one can then download the appropriate correct sub titles and then record to DVD (using DVD Flick) the correct version. I can see that the embedded subtitles are a stream of the video so I guess there must be a program that will separate out this stream in some way. Does anyone know how ? I would be grateful for some help on this issue as quite a few downloaded movies these days seem to have alternative language sub titles embedded and you cannot disable them. !!

If these are burned-in subtitles, they cannot be removed as they are now part of the video.

Thank you Attar. I wondered about that. Thanks for the bad news. I did notice that in DVD Flick (I think !!) that it showed it as a stream and due to that observation I was thinking it could be removed. Well if thats not the case I guess I will have to go and download alternative versions until I get a non subtitled version.
Again many thanks for the view.

AFAIK, the only AVI files that have a separate subtitle stream are 'Xsub' subtitles.
These subtitles are not normally selectable on the PC, (Windows Media Player, VLC or MPC players won't show them) but they can be turned on with the remote on a standalone DivX compliant DVD player.

These files often have the .divx extension, instead of .avi
