hows it going? my PC is down without the internet. i have no LAN light and i tried switching cables and resetting the router and modem but still no luck when i check for my IP address in command prompt all i see is "Windows IP configuration and no other information"

i went to my device manager and i see that there are yellow question marks on "other Drivers with the Ethernet controller tab having a question mark next to it. i don't have the re-installation CD anymore and i have no internet to repair or update that driver. is it Hardware failure on my PC? do i need to contact a technician? do i need to contact my ISP? i've been stuck for weeks and been doing a lot of googling but i have come short.

Is there anything that i can do? help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!! :)

see if you can get a linux livecd. This will bypass windows and has it's on linux drivers to connect you to the internet. This will test if you have a hardware problem.

Also if you can't get a linux live cd, you can always buy an ethernet PCI card (the cheaps ones cost 10.00), just make sure you disable the onboard LAN in the BIOS.

I've had the onboard LAN gone bad on me before. It's a quick fix to just add a PCI card.

You have a driver problem. One thing you can do is remove your ethernet controller (the one with the question mark). when the computer reboots it will relocate the enthernet controller and reinstall the lan drivers(which should already be present in your computer).

Why would you call a technician for drivers?

If you bought a prebuilt machine like a Dell or something, go to their website and check the drivers under the model number. If you built it, you should know what type motherboard you have and go to their website. If you installed the NIC card yourself, I would hope that you knew what kind you installed and go to their website.
