Avast is ok tho it is a bit of a resource hog in saying that it will scan files on logon & while surfing will tend to slow that down while it scans so would be good for someone that is not internet savvy
AVG 8 Seems ok tho it too has got bloated over the years,doesn't as far as i know scan on boot or while surfing well certainly not when i last it,suited for an intermediate internet user
Clamwin & Avira,both very small footprint & very little resource hungry,suited to experienced user

Comdo - For less experienced internet users, tho is a little bit on the bloated side
Windows Firewall- Although not the most fancy firewall it does the job non the less, to date it's never had an successful attack get past it
Zonealarm-don't maker me laugh,once upon a time it was good now i would rather go without

SuperAntiSpyware - never used it however it gets used round here when people ask for help removing already infected comps so would be right up there with spyterm
If you have spyterm installed you will find you won't need any of the below apps,that said they're ok too just not as fully functional as realtime scannning is what's needed "baby"

Brother Scorp, is that program superspyware or SuperAntiSpyware?
A few weeks ago, I removed the trial version of the Norton hog from my laptop and replaced it with avg and also added comodo. Haven't had any issues at all since the switch.
I use AVG 8.5 on all my machines, works fine on old and new machines alike, no performances issues here. The same was true of AVG 8.0 before it. Prior to AVG i use Mcafee Viruscan for donkeys years, great but could be quite the resource hog.
As to spyware type stuff, i very rarely run any. Once in a blue moon, i run Adaware and Spybot, plus ccleaner. I've only ever been bitten by one minor virus since the internet began. I guess my downloading and surfing habits are just more careful than most people's habits..

Same, i've even surfed with no protection what so ever including no firewall when i saw an article at cnet,can't quite remember what he said ,it went along the lines of a fully patched OS & you'd be unlikely to get infected in just general surfing or anything that attempts to attack unsecured holes from the internet (can't quite remember),mind you i didn't exactly go looking for a virus from a website & i suspect emails etc are pre scanned by my isp as is any attack being blocked by them ,the only time i was infected with anything was installing crap i shouldn't have other than that never had a prob
Like most pc addicts, i've downloaded half the internet over the years, and only had one minor virus. It makes you wonder what people are doing (and more importantly how inept and unfortunate they must be, just take one look in the virus forums!) when you see how many viruses they are affected by.
Plus, whilst i do use linux quite a bit at home, my kit at home is primarily Windows, not a single Windows Update or bugfix since SP2 was released ie my Windows installs are many years out of date; i don't believe in applying Windows Updates, in fact i am defiantly against the principle of Windows Updates; Windows was built from the ground up with one thing in mind - attracting as many viruses and security vulnerabilities as is humanly possible; i'm not cocky, stupid or ignorant by stating that i don't use the Updates, and who knows, maybe one day i will get hit by a really nasty virus, but as i say, what on earth are people doing (so badly) to be hit by viruses all the time (we have people who are regularly in the virus forums having people fumigate their machines) :)
