Hi Members:

Need some help. Just did a complete clean install of my computer and my second DVD burner (LiteOn DVDRW-SHW-160P6S) was not installed or recognized by my computer. My master driver was installed???

How do I now install my second driver? I've double-checked Device Manager and the second burner is not there.

Need step by step instructions if possible. It's been a while since I've had to do this particular fix after a clean install.

Many thanks,

katydidit, Canada

Hi All:

Well I was so ticked at my computer last night that I think I may have fixed it.

F2 Set-up Bios A07 (Dell)

Diskette Drive - Off
Drive 0: SATA-0- ON
WDC3200AAKS-75VYA0 (13in1 reader card)

Drive 1: Off Sata 2

Drive 2: On HL-DT-STDVD+-RW (GSA-HZ1N)
Parallel ATA PATA-0

Drive 3: Off

Now default is suppose to be ON

Changed:

Drive 3: On
Parallel ATA PATA-1

Saved changes. Exited and rebooted system. Nothing happened.
Shut down system. Opened tower and unplugged the driver not working and plugged it back in.

Fingers crossed. Rebooted and then checked Device Manager. It finally found the driver. Thank goodness!!!!

Checked BIOS again and it is recognized.

Also checked the DMA:

Primary IDE Channels - Ultra Mode 5
Primary IDE Channels - Ultra Mode 2
Secondary IDE Channel - not available

Have I missed anything? Tried the drive by copying and it worked.

Thanks to a sticky note in this forum: I've found new updated drivers for this LiteOn DVD+-RW burner. However, I didn't want to push my luck since it may or may not cause further problems.

Any advice,

Have you check Master/Slave/CS jumper?

Hi grampyga :

I assume you mean the grey wide band cable that attach to my burners. Yes. I unplugged and replugged the one that wasn't working. As far as I know they are in the correct sequence. Top is Master and Bottom is Slave.

Thanks,

Not the IDE cable. I mean the small 2 pin short jumper to set Master, Slave or Cable Select which is next to the IDE cable.

(edit) One should be Master, and other should be Slave (Or both CS if you have a proper IDE cable.)

See this (Pics may be Hard Drives.) Usually there is a small note or a picture on the drive?s label or stamped on the case to show where the jumper should go for each configuration.)

Hi grampyga:

Thanks so much for the picture. The bios is now picking up the two different drives. One as master and the other as a slave. So I'm assuming that everything as far as connections is correct.

However, I really like the pictures and the explanation. When I have the computer open I'll be checking to see exactly where everything is pinned.

Many thanks for the help,
