I bough my daughter a first generation Ipod 8gb and she has about 30 songs on it but when she wants to play them the ipod keeps scrolling to another song. this is very frustrating. can anyone help me with this
most of the tunes come from itunes and then some from a cd. do i have to copy the music back onto the pc then reboot the Ipod then put the music back onto the ipod.
Any tune downloaded from itune is DRMed. Those will create the problem you discribed.
I haven't use itunes in almost 4 years so I don't know, maybe itunes is DRMing music you rip. At one time, Windows Media Player was DRMing music you ripped. These can't be played on a second device. You might want to check out something like tunebyte. The problem with DRMs is if the support is dropped the tunes are gargage. DRM removale must be done while it is still playable which is legal. It is real smart to remove the DRMs when you can instead of waiting till it is too late. I would continue to use the DRMed music as is but I would take time to make DRM free backups. Those can be used on a different device.
I would suggest ripping your music with a better app. EAC is a great ripper. Media Monkey will do everything itunes does but better. Both have free versions.
You might want to factory reset your daughter's ipod then use Media Monkey to manage it. From what I hear, itunes does not like you loading the same tune on two different players. So that may be a second problem. MM just does what you tell it to do. You do not want to mix and match players. Media Monkey doesn't care what you do but itunes is like a jelous woman. It used to attack the ipod if itunes had been syncing the player then you switch to another app to sync. That is one of the many reasons I don't use itunes.
so after I download all the songs to my pc then reset to factory specs, I use mm to put them back on her ipod, then should be ok and stop rescrolling. also in the future how will I download songs from Itunes(if she buys a gift card) if I use mm(any other sites I could use). I am trying to figure this out in my head and on paper. Thanks for your help!!
The reason the tunes do not play is they are most likely copy protected. They are made so that they can only be played on one mp3 player. You first need to remove the DRMs. Tunebyte is a popular DRM remover. Once the DRMs are removed, then you can load them up onto a different player with MM. MM does not care and does not keep track of what you do with your tunes.
I would avoid itunes. I think etunes provides clean high bit rate tunage. I only use ripped or shared ripped tunes so I don't know too much about the paaid for downloaders.
sorry I sound like an idiot with this but it is frustrating. WHen I bought this Ipod and downloaded music from Itunes it was fine, then I added a cd to her library then added more itunes songs. this is when the problem started. so 1. should I complain or report a problem to Apple Itunes ( she tried dl a few podcasts which didn't dl) about this and 2) dl the songs to my pc, use this tunebyte , run them through it and then use mm to put them back onto the ipod. what about future purchases? do I have to dl them to my pc then run tunebyte and then to mm and then onto the ipod. It sounds alot of work.
thanks for all your help
It is normal to be both confused and frustrated when you have a problem and know little. There is actually many things you need to know before you can understand what is going on. Most parts are simple enough in its self but there are many. After a few years, we all forget how un-intuitive it is. We tend to think it is all obvious to anyone. Most 'kids' just watch their friends 'do it'. Parent do not have that luxury.
Nothing is malfunctioning. Apple has spend a great deal of time and effort to stop you from doing what you want to do. They want you to buy new copies of each tune for each player. I do not approve of their greedy intent. I boycot itunes!
You may have done something that activated the cyber policeman inside itunes. I still believe all your problems are because of the copy protection that comes with all the 99 cent files. They have just started to sell protection frre tunes for 1.30 USD. They know most persons have drm removers which cost about 30 USD.
Yes, is is work, but then you are free from the shakles. You can also just buy 2 copies of every tune. That is really what Apple wants you to do. They figure they can get a large segment of the population to do just that.
