Dear Anyone.

I've got a Pentium 4 mobo with an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 Soundcard, 1gig DVD2 Ram and Windows XP Pro. Latest M-Audio drivers.

I got Nero Essentials with my new DVD burner. Installed it. I can hear stuff OK. But on the side of the Star-Trek Enterprise-shaped control panel there is a sound slider. Which doesn't move. The sound stays on the same constant level - VERY quiet, whatever I'm using Nero for - but I can't turn it up! (Or down, because it thinks it's on the lowest sitting already.)

I've tried VLC and other players (inc. Windows Media Player) same problem . Very quiet sounds and can't turn them up.

If I go to Sounds and Audio devices, Device Volume and Speaker Volume are all greyed out. Can't alter, use or activate them. Been to Windows Audio Properties, start type's on Automatic.

How do I UN-grey out Device Volume and Speaker Volume so I can use them?
