Can't watch movies on Windows Media Player

My system crashed and i had it fixed but now i can't watch downloads . When i try to play on W.M.Player all i get is graphics . please help .

Have you tried using vlc to play the files/downloads?

KLite Codec Pack should do what you need not sure if there's a verson for vista,anyway on install it will give you the option of wmp or media player classic (mpc),it makes no diff which you choose as you can get access to both thru the "all progs" short cuts,once klite is installed wmp will or should now have the codecs to play movies,you don't need to delete vlc as it pays to have more than one media player,also checkout xbox media centre for windows it uses mpc as it's core codec & it's quite good especially all the skins you can download for it
