Hi, hope i can help here.
The DVD+r are he ones you should be using for the PS2. IMO, I don't think the manufacturer of the dvd matters, as long as you burn it slow. I was using Woolworth's Worthit DVD+R's (Cheap Stuff) until they ran out and i have never had a bad burn from them. Then, the other day i tried using TDK DVD+R's and i could not get a good burn, so now i have a lot of dead TDK DVD+R's which sucks! So, either go with the Verbatim's (Since they are a good media) or go for anything cheap! Just remember its DVD+r your needing. Also if you can't get a good burn through DVD Decrypter, use Alcohol 120%. Its a brilliant program, and easy to use and find... If you know what i mean ;)
