Transfering/using downloaded Ps1 saves to memory card

I've downloaded a couple of saves (from gameFAQS) for Masters of Teras Kasi to use on my 'backed up' game but they're in DEX Drive (.GME) format. I've tried using PSXMem Tool to convert the file to whatever usable format it's supposed to be (not that I knew what I was doing anyway!) and tried simply changing the file name for a what a Teras Kasi save looks like (BASLUS-00562MASTERS). But suffice to say, it didn't work.

I'm using UlaunchELF to [try] transfer it from USB drive to Ps1 memory card then quick-swapping the game to get it to run -- Ps2 slim -- but the file wont paste when I try to transfer it. Sort of obvious given the DEX Drive file is 136kb compared to a standard save that seems to be only 8!

So to cut a long n00bish story short, how does one go about using downloaded saves for a backed up PS1 game on a Ps2 Slim. I presume it's doable...?

There is a tutorial in post #3 explaining how to copy ps1 game saves from pc to first a ps2 memory card, then to the ps1 memory card using ulaunch.elf and a usb drive.
