Confusing problem

My hcpc was working just fine until I upgraded the receiver to a Yamaha rx-v640 and finished off my surround sound. I'm running a spdif output cable from the computer to the receiver. First I couldn't get the surround sound 5.1 to show on the receiver, but fiddled with the Powerdvd configuration and now it works great.
Problem is now I get no sound when viewing the tv from the winfast tv 2000xp capture card. When I record the sound play back just fine.
Also, now when the computer is on and I switch inputs on the Sharp aqos tv there is no sound. I turn off the computer and just have the tv going the sound works fine. It's one big puzzel. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong????
My set up is:
P4 2.6
P4P800 Mb
SoundMax sound card
Yamaha RX-v640 receiver
Winfast TV 2000 xp capture card

Any help would be appreciated.
