I am totaly new with this problem i installed xp due to a new hd and after that my dvd burner will only play and burn cd-r, rw. what could be the problem? my drivers im a noob so show a little help please.

The first couple of things I would do,,, Go to HP site and check for the latest firmware update for your drive. Then download and install the Windows XP ASPI files and install them. XP is missing the ASPI so you have to add them. Then check your device manager and see if your drive is listed properly as a HP drive. If not, uninstall it, then let XP re install it and see if that corrects the problem.
