Can I convert an internal DVD burner for a pc into an external drive for use on my laptop?

Yes you can get an external enclosure and put your drive in. Then you can connect it through the usb on your laptop.

will need either a 5.25" ide drive enclosure, 5.25" sata drive enclosure or 5.25" ide/sata drive enclosure. they come with usb, firewire or with both. they also come with external power adapters as the drives use 12v & the usb ports only have 5v.

I've always had the best experience using an external drive directly from the manufacturer. Enclosures had various quirks, not worth my my time to fidget with it.

I've always used standard burners in Belkin USB 2.0 enclosures. Been burning this way for about 4 years now, not a single problem with the Belkin's. I only have 6 of them, they're very hard to find at decent prices
