Hi, I have a dell dimension 2350:

I want to upgrade the following parts:
Hard drive - to 320GB
DVD Drive - To DL DVD RW
Ram - to 1GB
Graphics Card - no idea

i think a new processor may be too involved however ill give it a try if people say its possible. Thanks

PSP 1000 CFW 1.5>3.71 m33-2>6.0>5.0 M33-6, Custom Halo Gameboot, VSH Menu, Custom theme/icons.
Macbook White 1.83GHz>2GB Ram>160GB 7200rpm HD.

Ok i did a bit of research but im not sure if any of this stuff will be compatible with my dell, anyways here is what i was thinking of:

DVD Drive - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139414

Hard Drive - http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/13936/Western-Digital-320GB-hard-disk-drive-Caviar-SATA

Ram - http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=8CC273A7A5CA7304 maybe x2 but a pair deal would be better.

Thanks

That box does not support SATA drives, so the DVD drive and hard drive listed will not work with it. The ram should work with it. You do not have any AGP or PCIE slots, so you cannot upgrade the video. Processors are easy to upgrade, but it does not support any good chips.

There is nothing in there worth saving, and that includes the case. I would recomend buying/building a new system, and using this one to teach yourself linux, giving it to your kids, or donate it to a school, etc...

both the hard drive & dvd burner will have to be ide not sata unless you get a pci sata controller card. as you are using ddr ram then need 2 512meg sticks of ddr ram.

chewbkka basicly said that he bought a new system and copied his files over to it, then moved the old drives over (not sure why he did that)

because sometimes I am stupid and get ahead of myself. what I should have done was transfer all my files to a external hard drive then get a more powerful internal hard drive.

ddrc3po: The S-ATA card should work with the drive (but it's discontinued at amazon, you'll need to find somewhere else to buy it), but it would be simpler just to get a big external USB hard drive.
That is about the only thing worth upgrading in the system though, performance-wise it's much too old to upgrade anything useful (memory, CPU, graphics card)
xbox104: Coolmax PSUs are death. besides the fact that no standard PSU will fit in a Dell PC, you've chosen one of the worst brands out there. The graphics card you've chosen doesn't need a bigger power supply than the one the PC already has, so there's no need to replace the unit (which is good, because you can't anyway)
The external hard drive you've chosen is a compact portable one. You can get much more storage for your money if you buy a full size drive instead.

You will not be able to replace the CPU with anything decent without changing the motherboard and RAM. You won't be able to change the motherboard and RAM without changing the case and power supply too.
