Hello everyone. I am happy to be part of this awesome forum.

I am very new to this DVD ripping thing and let me first start out by telling you what my ultimate goal is. I currently own approximately 250 DVD's and frankly I am getting tired of trying to keep track of them and honestly having to put them in the player! I know, I am lazy. LOL. Anyway, what my ultimate goal is to be able to rip all of these DVD's into files and put them on a media player drive so I can watch them from there without having to use the disc.

My questions are the following:

1. What is the best software to use to do this? These are not Blu-Ray dvds, they are just the standard dvd movies. I am looking for something very user friendly where I can just put the DVD in the drive, click a button and walk away while it rips the DVD.

2. How large of a media drive would I need to be able to fit as many of the 250 movies onto it? I have a Panasonic 60" HD rear-projection TV that displays in 720p. How large will the files be if I want to keep the same quality of the movie when playing it from the media drive?

3. What format would be the best to rip them movies into? I imagine I would have to find out what formats are accepted by the media player/drive that I purchase? Any recommendations on a media drive?

Well first the bad news you won't be able to successfully place the dvd in the drive and rip & convert it without removing copy protections so first your gonna need to rip the dvd to your Hard Drive using DVDFab HD Decrypter http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm then you will need a good easy to use program to convert them to your format of choice personally I like Divx with AC3 5.1 sound the easiest program for that is Gordian Knot AutoGK http://www.autogk.me.uk/ not this works great if your device supports it if not use psp video 9 which has mp4 encryption perfect for Ipod, PSP, and several other portables http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...psp_video_9.cfm
Additionally there are many guides on Afterdawn to guide you through using these programs. Good Luck hopefully other members will put in thier two cents
