I have been burning for couple of months. The problem i'm having is i'm spending 20mins to 32mins burning a single dvd to dvd-R. I have used a lot of programs like nero, dvdone, clonedvd, etc... I could like to speed up the burning process and save as much time as possible. recently i have bought a dvd-r burner 20X and have been using 16X dvd-r. Still the difference is not that great. Would I need a specific computer, program, dvd-r burner? any help would be greatly appreciated

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

I will assume you ONLY refer to burn time, not time spent creating the content or reading from another disc?

- Check DMA.
- Double-check that burner does 20x DVD.
- Double-check media is 16x
- Use good media, such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim, not other cheap junk. More information on blank DVD quality at http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm

8x burn = 7-8 minutes
12x burn = 6-7 minutes
16x burn - 5-6 minutes
18x and higher = 5-6 minutes

You don't save much time going faster, as the high speed is only at the outer edge itself. All burns start off about 4x and gradually go higher. Never go faster than 12x for the best burns. Inversely, never go too slow when burning (no lower than 4x-8x for 16x media, 1x-2x too slow, real-time DVD recorders excluded).
