Hi, Im looking for some advice on buying a new PC.I am looking to spend less than £300 but I want a decent machine if poss as I might play the odd game on it. I spotted this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...s%3DI%26otn%3D2

Does this seem like a good deal, or has anyone got any other suggestions?

That system will play games like Tetris just fine! If you wanna play anything made in the last 5 years, it is the wrong system.

If I knew where to get a £300 PC that was good for gaming, I would buy it before I told anyone else about it. That is about what you would pay for a good video card, processor, and ram.

If you want to game for that kind of money, you are much better off with a console (Xbox360 or PS3). If you get the PS3, you can load Linux on it and buy a USB keyboard & mouse...it will have most of the capabilities of a linux pc, and you can reboot to play ps3 games. You can even use it with a some PC monitors (must be DVI with HDCP support).

mrlip, except for windows which i presume you have to load & the games' requirement for videocard then go for it. if using a 32bit version of windows instead of 64bit, you'll be luky to see past 3gig of ram in windows even tho the bios sees 4gig.

Cheers DDP, that system or something equivalent will probably do for me. Yeah I have Windows, would you recommend running Xp or Vista on a system like that?

go with xp as vista might have problems with some games & maybe any hardware/software you might have.

Ok thanks for the tip. I was just looking before at the specs on a few recent PC games and it looks like that system should be able to run most new games quite adequately. Like you mentioned, the graphics card is a bit of weakness but that same seller has quite a few similar systems on ebay so I may look for one with a better card

Ok I went with this system in the end.

Now I just need to sort out an operating system. Would you still go with XP on that system?32 or 64 bit?

64bit xp supposedly has driver issues & 32bit can only read a max of about 3.5gig of ram.
