Hiya,

I back up my photos on my DVD. However, my HD and DVD somehow both got corrupted at the same time before Christmas last year. I finally got my PC to read my DVD. But all the images on it is shown as 'No preview available' despite showing the image size and name.

Does this mean it's lost forever?

Did you try/are you able to copy one of the files to the HDD and open it?

It could be that you are just seeing the directory but are unable to access the actual files.

Interesting, after a bit of searching. I found photos on the DVD that ARE NOT IN the folders are fine. But these in the folders are not working. I checked one picture that is in one of the folders with notepad and it is all in 'y'.

Does that mean a funeral for my DVD?

what happens when you double click on a file on the disk? the fact it shows image size & name means the picture viewer program is not working.

When I double click on the files, I get 'preview not available'. This only happens with files that are in folders on the DVD.

I've tried copying the photos off the dvd to desktop, pen drive and my friend's laptop and all ends in same results.

I just can't understand why the photos on the DVD that are not in the folders are fine, the one in the folders aren't.

Would these software works with the jpeg files as the notepad I opened up on the files is all in 'y'. Like this yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy instead of jumbled up of letters and symbols.

I tried ZAR and still gets the same result - 'No preview available'. I'm starting to think the photos are gone forever...
