Hello, I'm new here, thought it'd be the best place to ask for help.
I have two problems going on, the two are slightly related.
Right, so the first is the annoying problems I've been having with my monitor. At certain times and when it runs certain programs it likes to flicker, it's pretty hard to explain. But these shaky grey/black lines appear then disappear at different parts of the monitor, making the display look awful and slightly garbled. I've noticed it will happen when I'm on the desktop at random times. And when I run a full screen program that doesn't have a resolution of 1024x768 or more, the same thing happens, making it difficult to play games. If the game doesn't allow me to change resolutions, I'm pretty much screwed. I've tried changing the resolution to the one of the game, still didn't work. I have also tried to move the monitor around and playing with the settings, trying to reduce the shaky lines, but that didn't work either. I'm pretty stuck here, and Google can't help me because the problem is so hard to describe on a search engine.
Phew, sorry for the speech... Second problem.
A while ago I saw Final Fantasy VII PC on eBay for a pretty cheap price, so I bought it, and it turned out it was just a crappy copy. I installed it and played it with no problems. Because of the problem I have now with the display on the monitor, I have to install a high resolution patch, but it turns out you have to have the official FF7 1.02 patch to install it. So I downloaded the official patch, replaced the original FF7.exe with the new one, and I get this error message: "Please insert FF7 game disc 1, 2 or 3 and try again". Yet the disc is in there. When I try and run the original FF7.exe, the game plays fine, but that patch won't work.
Thanks a lot if someone can help me, I really appreciate it.

Problem 1: Is it a CRT? If so, it might be your speakers or the monitor signal cable. What game does not let you change resolutions? It might be an external setup program for the game.
Problem 2: The legal fix is to buy a legal copy of the game (and report the seller if they are still around). Otherwise, google something like "FF7 no-cd patch". I don't condone piracy, but in this case, you are not the pirate; the seller is.

1. Nope, it's an LCD one. I've checked all the wires too, it doesn't seem to be that that's causing the problem.
It's mainly old games, such as the Oddworld ones, and it happens with MapleStory too. MapleStory does have a window mode though, but it'd be nice to play full screen for a while.
2. I suppose I'll have to try that, but if all else fails I'll probably end up buying the real game.

problem 2 already solved.
problem 1: does this happen only while playing "certain" games or does it happen regardless of the game... does it happen when you're not playing a game (e.g. while watching videos, or surfing the web, etc.)...??
sounds like a video card issue... maybe try updating drivers, see if there's any game updates available...
if possible try to put a different video card in and see if problems get solved, this will probably be the quickest way of narrowing down the issue...
if you don't have a video card, does your motheboard have an onboard monitor slot? if so remove your video card, and try to use the onboard connector to see if the problem goes away...
***If problem is solved by either of the above, it's more then likely a video card hardware problem
