Hey guys, I'd appreciate some help with this very annoying situation.
Over the last two years, I've burnt upwards of 100 backups of dvds using DvdShrink and Dvd Decrypter and never had any problems with playback. I was even using shoddy Memorex media and only got two duds the entire time. they always played on my Compaq laptop.
So last week I bought a new desktop(HP Pavillion) with Vista 64 installed. The drive is a OEM LiteOn (dvda dh16a6L) , I've been told. Needless to say, the burns have not worked on my laptop since using this drive. They do play in the desktop, and on my PS3, however. So at first, I figured it was the drive, and I added my old burner as a second drive (LG GSA H10L), figuring that would remedy the situation, but it didn't. My laptop continued to say "No Disc" when inserting the burnt dvd+r. Then I figured I might want to switch to ImgBurn, and I did, but still, same result.
Finally, I figured it must be those dastardly memorex discs taking their toll. I bought Verbatim lightscribe discs and just tried them-same friggin result. The discs just won't play on the laptop, despite the fact that the prior 100+ burnt dvds still do.
I'm left thinking this is a Vista 64 issue since the problem coincided directly with the use of the new pc.
I just checked and I have vista service pk 1 on both my laptop and desktop, so that's not it.
Thanks though...I thought that was going to be it.
An update: If I burn the same Verbatim discs on my laptop, using the same programs, the laptop will play them. So it's something with this desktop...not sure what.
