I was hoping one of you might be able to help out. I had the problem where my recorder kept "preparing" the discs and ruining them. From searching around on the internet, I thought I needed a new drive. I purchased a Liteon 411 (used-- since they are no longer made), plugged the new drive in with the two connectors in the back (the ribbon one and power source connector), and now all I get when I turn on the DVD player is "hello". It won't go to the main screen or anything. Did I not install the new drive properly, do I have a bad replacement drive, or is the problem larger than that?
By your post it appears the original drive was recognized but not working properly
I have replaced the drives on some 40 units with drives from the 451 to the 1693 all have worked fine
The original was a DDW 451 or DDW 813 I have not used a 411 but it should work ok???.
Make sure the cable is connected right. Tha stripe points to the rear on the mainboard and to the power cable on the drive.
It sounds as the drive may be defective
Drives that operate on all fuctions are hard to get
You might try the old drive and if recognized Take the top off the drive and clean it. It might work but get another. contact me as if you want. I do have some original DDW drives that are recognized but my not be reliablefor play or burn. You can have one for the cost of shipping (about $8.75 USPS) I will be in and out fot some two weeks but I have to check them first
ebay might be a source for a drive
The R04 is Worth some effort
PS
Were the disks you mentioned a +RW If So that might be the problem if not handled right
Thanks for the response. I had the 411 drive set on "slave" before, when I set it to master the menu screens and everything else seemed to be in order. However, I am having difficulties finalizing the discs on the 411 (fails 80% of the time) It prepares the discs fine, and seems to record them without issue, but won't finalize the majority of the time. The drive also doesn't recognize CDs (I have a CD cleaner that I tried to use with it). I think I need a better replacement drive (compatible up to Lite-on 1693, correct?), but let me know if you have any other suggestions for fixing the 411 or 451 (the drive it originally came with). The 451 got to the point where it would continuously "prepare" a disc and wouldn't do anything else, so I thought I needed a new drive. Thanks again!
Good Point I forgot to mention the proper setting is Master or it should work if set cs [cable celect]
O have only used a 4x drive once and it worked fine. The 1693s Is fine I?ve used a number of them
The speed of a drive is not a factor when used in a standalone

Because a drive is not listed does not mean it does not exist also
