off course you need to softmod it first, just use a slayer disc! then connect your xbox with your router and ftp into the xbox's ip address using your computer (password/login is 'xbox')

This is totaly WRONG! the only way you can use a slayers disc, or AID disc, is to have the xbox chipped. is Not, i repeat NOT a softmod disc! now, i know this sounds like a stupid question, but is your xbox modded in any way??

the poster clearly says that he has xbox with a mod chip.... so, just download a slayer or aid disc and run it. you can just use it to install a custom dashboard (avalaunch, unleash, xbmc or whatever) ignore the newbie, he doesn't know what he is talking about.

so WHY did your first post say he has to softmod it first???
I watch and sometimes you should read the post before answering ...
Hi creakster.. hows your pair holding up.. looks like I'm the only one of the old time xbox crew left... wonder what happened to return and ridges? guess they got bored and went off to play with things which aren't 4 years obsolete and been done to death... WHEN are we going to give up chewing this same old crap over and over?.. 3 years ago these forums should have been archived to some guides and closed.

yes you are right, installing a custom dashboard using either a slayer disc or softmodding is the same for me. if it has a chip, i just pop in a slayer disc. that does the job in the sense that i will end up with a custom dashboard (avalaunch or something else)
if it doesn't have a chip, i just softmod it with the endresult of having a custom dashboard (avalaunch).
hence, the endresult is the same, having a custom dashboard.
but you are right, i am confusing with my terminology. i will not do it again ;-)
also to who_U, you are right also. no need to softmod with a chip if you boot of the chip.

Hi, I'm one of the few people left that still uses an original xbox and would like to help. First of all since you have a chipped Xbox, I would like to know what your dashboard is and your modchip manufacterer, and what version your modchip is, for example, mine is running off the latest EVOX dashboard and my modchip is an Xecuter V2.6CE Lite. Then I would also like to know if you have a Crossover cable, if not you can get one off ebay cheap, or make it your self (cheaper).
That's all for now, bye!
Google is your best friend! :P
PM me if you need anything.
Im 14!
Xbox: EVOX, Xecuter 2.6CE Lite, 250Gb HDD
PSP: 5.00M33-6, PSP 1000k

Hehe, the old xboxes just won't go away. However time marches on, even the person/people behind Auto Installer Deluxe has finally called it a day and replaced with Xbox Media Center Installer Deluxe, i'd tried it out and commented here ~
