Hello. This will be my first post here. I do realize that most likely there is some thread or another that addresses this, but after the last half hour of reading I am very little more than confused.
I remember way back when in order to play your backup ps2 games you absolutly without question needed a modchip. Now that I look Im seeing all kinds of things...swapmagic...some people claming they can do it without any form of hack tool. What of these claims are true and which arent? Essentially (to the point of my question) is a modchip still a 100% requirement to play your backups? And does is swapmagic worth getting? Any info is greatly appreciated!
True you don't need a modchip to play backups on your PS2.
YOu do however need a method to install exploits that will let you play backps on your PS2.
Swap Magic is a good method to play backups, or you can use it too install fmcb 1.8 to play backups, among other things, such as being able to launch homebrew applications right from your Sony Browser.
Free McBoot is a method of running homebrew applications directly off a Memory Card as a stand alone loader. No boot discs or modchips are required once installed. You will however need to have a method to install FMCB to the MC.
WEll, there is one thing. What is available for use with a thumb drive? I have the slim ps2 with the 2 usb ports in the front. Anything I can simply put on that drive and plug into my ps2?
Unfortunately the USB ports won't work on the PS2 unless there is some sort of software installed or modchip etc.
Then there are many programs that can see the USB device.
Most cheat disks for example use USB drives for storage.
You can buy USBExtreme which will allow you to play games off the USB drive.
Or if the PS2 has a softmod already or you have Swap Magic, you can use USBAdvance.elf ( which is basically the hacked USBExtreme disk.) to play games off the USB drive.
