I made a video and posted it on youtube. here are the links

Video 1 -

Video 2 -

Sorry for the wait on the videos I did'nt know that Youtube had to process the movies. They should go through no problems.

Now as noted in video 2 the rings on the bottom of both the PS2 DVD and PS2 CD, for swap magic 3.8 are those normal? Also is there an updated TuT for burning games?

Hi I watched both videos.

I would have to say its your media.. Memorex is crap media.
I am sure you know that, some PS2 will play it just fine, others will not, but in the long run they won't last.

Better to use Verbatim, Sony DVD-R
If you use DVD+R, you need to set your BOOKTYPE in the burning program from DVD+R to DVD-ROM

Like you say on the Videos, sometimes the audio skips, sometimes not.

As for the rings on the SM disks, yes they are normal to be there.

If your Swap Magic CD doesn't work, you could first try it on a Friends PS2 or ask your retailer to exchange it.

Now on the latest model PS2 like you have, the discs can be tricky to get going as I have heard they don't fit quite right on the spindle.
So you need to make sure it is clicked right on it.

Now there is another way to rebuild some games. Some other games require their own plugin and method.

This tool comes from gnie on alucard.cc forums
His plugins for the tool are listed on that forum.

Ok here is a picture of gnie's xpert tool and a link to the very latest one that works properly.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/53/275350#4070885

In the part where it shows @No Data Type Selected is where you will choose the plugin

Instructions:

1. Select the Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5 v1.04_iso.epi on the plugins drop down list.
2. Select the iso you want to rebuild.
3. Click extract LBA.
4. Click extract file and wait for it to finish.
5. Click rebuild file and wait for it to finish.
6. Click rebuild LBA.
7. Burn the new iso with Imgburn as usual.

Most games will play fine with Swap Magic, but it there is a few that do need to be rebuilt to play fine.

Now also with Swap magic you could use an ELF file on a USB device and play Mercenaries or any other High TOC game using the ESR r9b elf

That way no need to rebuild the game, just patch the ISO image with "esr disc patcher", then burn it using imgburn.

There is a thread about it here

Awesome man thanks a ton. Im glad you could help :D yea those memorex dvd's are pretty crappy my wife uses them for copying movies lol. So I'll be going to Wal-Mart to pickup some Sony's YaY! Also, I think I was trying to do a soft mod on my PlayStation 2 Previously without the Swap magic, and I could not do it becuase the peticular version of PS2 I have doesnt have very good USB support, I also have a CodeBreaker V 9.something. I remmember something like that because I had a few USB sticks diff brands and none of them would work. They kept locking up Codebreaker.

Your Absolutly Right, Sometimes when you think its on there, Its really not. You can press it down and then hear the ball bearing click the disc into place I stress this to anyone who has this model of PS2 to make sure that it is on there. Thats why Im usualy always pushing down "Lightly" around the entire disc just to make sure that its on there fully. Which is why the PS1 Swap trick isnt really recommended but its easier to do this through the browser on this model of the PS2 becuase you can time it just right and catch it when its not spinning to place the disc in.

Also once I get all of this worked out and everything figured out to the max would anyone object to me making some Video Tuturials and posting them on youtube then posting the links here? I don't know if that would be considered pirating or not.

I went to Wal-Mart today, and much to my demise they did not carry Verbatim or Sony DvD-r's.

so, I picked up a pack of Memorex DvD-r's and rented 3 games from Movie Gallery. Destroy All Humans 2, Family Guy, and Rogue Galaxy.

I burnt all three games using the DvD-R's, at 4X and none of them worked. so I tried the same games on the same brand burning them at 4 X with the DvD+r's and they did'nt work, so once again lol. I tried them with DvD-r's at 8X they didnt work. You starting to see a pattern? lol....

So I felt cocky enough to make a few more coasters. Well I burnt all three games with the Memorex DvD+r's at 8X and guess what? They all worked! lol.. Im still going to try to find some verbatim which Wal-Mart does carry but online only and there pretty cheap for a 100 pack, I would prefer Sony though honestly same people that make the PS2. So I'm gonna check out Radio Shack here in town and see if they have them if not Im gonna get some online and keep you guys posted.

Well if the memorex worked at 8x then that is fine.

Being this PS2 is new, and I don't have one to look at, It could very well be the laser is different again and in which media it likes.

Look at the Wii, every Wii is different as to what media it likes.

I would say go with what works for you.

But just so you know Rogue Galaxy is a Dual layer game.

You need to burn it too Verbatim DL DVD+R

Unless you ripped it too single layer DVD5.. You just didn't say.

I did the patch thing followed the steps and it worked out, I don't know if its a good copy or not havnt really played it, I did the first fight in it where dude jumps out and whoops some major bizzut.

The thing was called Rogue Galaxy Rip Kit DVD9 to DVD5 I guess thats what your talking about?

P.S Also I just tested mercs again using the system you suggested with Xpert.

Cool, Thank you very much, it is a good game :P Merc's 2 Is pretty good as well. I kinda screwed the pooch on that one and bought it from Wal-Mart for 20$ then brought it home and beat it within two days. I don't like that!!! I hate paying for a game especially when I only make 7.50 an hour it costs me 20 bucks and then I barely get two days of gameplay from it.

Do you think I should make some detailed Tut's for the model of PS2 that I have so that some people can see how it works Via the silver eidition slimlin PS2? it seems that wal-mart is only selling these now and there 99$'s here.

You guys won't be rid of me very easily lol.. Instead of downloading games which I hate doing becuase I dont like to do it through websites unless there is a decent website to go through but mostly torrents take forever if people arnt seeding I have a GameFly subscript so I end getting the orig copies anyhoo :D YaY!

Yeah "Sopranos Road to Respect" annoyed me that way. Beat it in a couple days.
It was way to easy, should have been more to the story. But oh well.

If you want to submit your own guides, you can. Where it says "Edit my account" at the top right of the forum. There is a place there to submit your guides.

The basic thing to remember on that model PS2 is that anything above DATE Code 8C cannot use the fmcb 1.8 exploit, which most people I think know anyway.

Oh and I should compliment you on your video's. You have a good camera and mic. I had no problem seeing or hearing you.

Some you see people make and they are dark, and hard to hear people.

Good job on those videos. Good explanation on the Swap Magic and what to do if the disks aren't good.

Now the PS1 backups and burning, that worked for you burning at 1x speed.
But most have always burned PS2 or PS1 CD at 12-16x.

But again depending upon your type of burner, quality of disks, speed of disks are important factors, and whatever a person finds that works for them is what to stick with.

Anyway good job again. Your videos are very clear, concise and excellent quality
