How to play ps1 crash team racing?

I downloaded a ps1 game(crash team...). There was an eboot.pbp file and that was it. I put it in the game folder and started it. The espalpsp logo and playstation logo came. It was fine till a couple of messages began to pop up ...credits,press X for 'xyz' press O for 'abc'. Then, when i press X or O a black screen comes up and nothing happens. I can hit menu and exit it...but when i hit menu a different kind of screen comes up(not the usual:do you wish to exit? yes[X] no[O]) with a bunch of options having "quit game" heading the lot.

So..do i have to install a plugin or summin or is it just that there's something wrong with my download (which i doubt)?

Please try to give ellaborate idiot-proof answers coz i have this in built tendency to misinterpret instructions.

I have a PSP Slim with Custom Firmware 5.00m33-4 installed on it

I appreciate you taking your time to answer my question..i badly need to know.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/767509 popsloader make sure it's an eboot put it in the psp/game folder you can put the eboot.pbp in a folder and name it the same as the title (don't make the title too long)

Thanks for the link. I downloaded pops plugin file which had 310.prx
It's supposed to work best with that.
I got the game running but the text which is supposed to come while someone is talking doesn't seem to come. Is there any way to fix this?
