After having problems with my desktop pc, I've finally decided to just give up on it and buy a new one. I built one the last few times, but I'm leaning toward just buying a pre-built system to avoid the hassles.
I'm looking for the best specs I can get for under $700. I don't play games that much, but would like to have the flexibility to play games like Age of Empires, etc. (i'm not into the 3D games).
I'm pretty out of touch with the latest and greatest and was wondering if someone could send me some links with some options for the best system at the best price.
Oh jim you don't wanna buy a prebuilt you may be able to salvage some of your current parts try these out for size Amd/Ati 780/790 chipsets http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2355&page=3 this igp plays blu-ray and alot of games you can add an inexpensive ati 3450 and get hybrid graphics if you prefer nvidia they have hybrid sli 8100-8200 chipsets http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/gf8200a/ a couple of ways to save some cash is re-use your drives, even the case the tricky part is the front end connectors some oem cases have wierd non standard connections but not all. I beleive in you jim don't give those oems any money just to give you a dumbed down last seasons hardware. Need some extra guidence check out this link http://computershopper.com/feature/build...-250-500-or-750
You're right. After some research, I've discovered that all of these pre-fab PC's are trash. They woo you with a flashy CPU and cheap RAM and package that with a garbage graphics card, etc.
I can at least salvage my Case, Fans, Hard drive (even though it's not big, but probably big enough...and if I had to buy a new one it's cheap). So maybe I just buy a new Mobo, Graphics card, processor, and RAM.
I don't follow all of your lingo (I'm not an expert), but I can probably figure something out and piece this thing together without breaking something!
Any reco's on a Processor I should get? Any reco's on fans and power supply capacity I'd need with the Mobo and Graphics Card (and processor) you suggested? Maybe I burnt my last PC up, who knows...
Hoping to keep cost under $500...maybe $600 tops...
Hey,
Thanks for the great info! That computershopper link was great. I may just grab some of those components and then check some performance chart comparisons on tomshardware.com to narrow down on exactly which processors/graphics cards provide the best value for the cost.
