Does the quality of DVD-R effect the gameplay experience?

I'm asking this, because I have burnt a few games(e.g. NFS Carbon, Tekken4 etc.) on a DVD-R, of a brand other than renowned DVD-R brands, and I'm not satisfied with the gameplay. The game either takes a long time to load or skips the in-between movies. It also cuts music in games.

I burn PS2 games using imgburn at 8x write speed.
Please recommend the brand of DVD-R, suitable for this purpose.

check that the game is not a ripped version(some people take out stuff to make the file shorter). When I burned god of war it was weird that the movies were skipping and it wasn't the full version.

I burn at x1 speed to make no mistake and I use the most talked brand(verbatim) that I had searched through online and many pointed at. the first backup I burned never failed me. meaning I never wasted a disc even on my 1st try taking the safest route. Many people seems to burn games at x2-4 speed though
