Is here anyone who has upgraded to Windows 7 from XP? I'm thinking of upgrading but I'm not sure.. I've already downloaded the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Beta"-program (stupid name.. :P) and I passed, only exception was my graphics adapter which didn't support Windows Aero (which I don't really even need).
I have pretty sucky and old computer;
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2400+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz
RAM: 1534MB (1.5GB)
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9250, 128MB
I'd like to know if installing Windows 7 will boost my performance. I've heard that on bad computer that can run XP but not Vista, installing 7 boosts up it's performance by a little bit. Just haven't found anything about it anywhere. :(
Longtime user of XP here and recently installed W7 (7100) but I see no performance gain and slower shutdown times. This is on a powerful rig (AMD 6400, 4 G Ram) built for Vista. Actually, saw a big performance gain in Vista but it's installed size is just so huge, currently playing around with Vista, W7 and VLite to chop size's. (just an FYI to anyone interested but VLite seem's to work fine on W7) Performance may vary from computer to computer, don't know, XP is running faster on an older, far less powerful computer which doesn't even make sense, driver's and program's, I guess.
I tried W7 on my Athlon 2800XP with 1GB of RAM and GeForce2 MX400 or MX440 graphics but it groaned and creaked so i put XP back on there. The 2800 had run XP with great performance for many years but now the 2800 runs Puppy Linux 4.21 as i have too many XP machines as it is. I also tried W7 on my AMD laptop, a Turion64 ML30 with 2GB of RAM. It didn't run very well so XP is back on there too.
