my 3 year old LH-18A1P wouldnt recognize DVD+R DL

just like what title says. it just wouldnt recognize Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x. it does recognize CD-Rs and DVD±Rs but man why DVD+R DLs. i tried to update firmware to GL0J but it didnt help. any suggestion?

i forgot to mention that when i put DL media in, it just spins it forever. it looks like it's trying to read it but it just can't.

It typically means that the laser can't focus to the second layer.

If you can take the disc to another PC and it can be read, it's time for a new drive.
