I ripped my first two blu-rays to dvd-9's but i keep getting a black row on top and at the bottom. shouldnt the movei take up the whole screen??? is there a setting i need to do to get the movie on the whole screen? or are certain movies this way. thanks

Surely you realise unless you specifically change the aspect ratio during the re-encoding then the output will be in the same as it was on the original bluray movie.
The original aspect ratio is probably 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 and it won't matter which media you have it on.

PC Specs: CPU-C2D E8400, M/B-P5N-E SLI, RAM 4Gig OCZ Platinum rev2 ,VGA- Nvidia 8800GT 512MB, HDD- Hitachi Deskstar SATAII 1TB, 250Gig Maxtor IDE HDD.
Corsair HX520 PSU, Liteon Lightscribe DVD Writer, Pioneer BluRay drive.

Well, regards quality, considering you've come down from a Bluray to DVD, I would say it would only make a slight difference to quality because you are stretching the image to fill the screen. Much like "Zoom" or similar on TV's.
If you have this feature on your DLP it would be simpler.

Otherwise you should look for something like a "Pan & Scan" or 16:9 setting option in your encoding software for the video aspect ratio.

make sense better to use just the tv options.. but taking all the crap out with temuxer gui then using bd rebuilder to compress down to a dual layer dvd i hardley notice a difference.

I've been using Clown-BD GUI, which pulls together AC3to and TSmuxer and burns with Imgburn.
I save One video, one audio and one subtitle, but even then the smallest file I've got down to is 17.5gig. Most are 22 - 27 gig.
This method takes about 1.5 to 2 hours max reading staright from the bluray disc.

I have'nt used BD-Rebuilder to go down to DVD-9 cause of how long I hear it takes, but I did use Convert X to DVD recently for the same purpose. That only took about 2 hours for the DVD output but although the quality was'nt bad, I felt it was not as goog as the original DVD would have been.

Yes the blanks are expensive, but a 1TB hard drive isn't.
