What the heck is with the damaged files on Kazaa?
Since I don't know how to back up my own copies, i am trying to attain them on there. Almost every song plays perfectly then has this high pitched chirpping.

Please help,
M

"Chirping" is a common mp3 artifact caused by a combination of crappy encoder and too low bitrate. To find out what encoder was used try Encspot. Otherwise it might be a good idea to rip+encode your mp3s yourself using EAC/CDex/Audiograbber + lame (recommended settings from sticky thread here).

Hiya tigre,

If it was an encoder/bitrate issue, surely it would affect the WHOLE file - whereas the O.P. says it plays PERFECTLY, THEN has the problem!!

I have seen (heard) the encoder/bitrate problem you allude to, but it always affects the whole file.

i have experienced similar problems with some downloaded files. i think it is only on files where i have resumed the download not form the original source. this causes a high pitched whine or high pitched pulsing noise which is one of the most annoying on the planet.

like tigre says, best way to ensure the quality of your back ups is to rip/encode/burn them yourself.

there is loads of threads on how to do that with free/downloadable software in this forum

godd luck
