Hi. I recently re-formatted my PC. After reformatting, I had to re-install my audio drivers. Luckily, I remembered the name to search for off by heart! (AC97). After searching that I found what I needed.
I've noticed that in full screen, my videos are going slow. My emulators are laggy and such. . . and I've discovered that I never reinstalled my video drivers! I have no idea what my video card is, so I started to look through our old software CD's. . . and I found nothing. I've been downloading random drivers for ATI and nVIDIA Video cards and I've had no luck so far.
In device manager, I can nowhere locate the video card, howver; there is a part that says "Other Devices", and when I click it it says "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)". This PC was purchased somewhere around 2003-2004. (If it helps any.)
Is there any simple way to find out what video card I have so I can download these drivers? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Load the correct video driver for your video card. You are using the default Microsoft VGA video driver, which is "dumber than dirt" for compatibility reasons) and subsequently slow.
If you don't remember what video card you have you will have to open the case and look it up.
yeah I figured that I'd need to load the correct drivers, but my problem is I don't know what video card I have. I guess I'll have to open it up. . . .
ddp took the path of least resistance, but based on the nature of your question, I chose to cut right to the chase.
If you cannot determine the Make and mode of your computer, you will need to open the case and note the following.
If the video is an add-on card, note the make and model or part number of the video card.
If the video is integrated on the motherboard (typically indicated by the video port bein in close proximity to the keyboard and mouse cable, then not the motherboard make and model number, which is typically silkscreened in white near the expansion connectors.
Being a newbie, it took a couple of reads to understand what you meant. . . but I got it, loud and clear. :)
I'll open it up tonight; I have a busy day ahead of me. However, when I open it up, I'll list the info here and we'll go from there. Thanks a lot for taking time out of your day(s) to help me with this issue; I wish I was a computer wiz, lol.
Yes I did (get my PC from Future Shop in 2003), but I've moved twice since I got it, and thus; I can't find the PC.
HOWEVER; I opened it up before. Nothing looked really like anything I should find OTHER THAN this chip that said "phoenix" on it. It also had the word "BIOS" on it. I looked it up; I think I've discoverd that maybe the video card is part of the motherboard (Integrated) and maybe I have to do some sort of motherboard driver upgrade or something. . .
Please look where I indicated in my previous post.
Look for information silkscreened (in white) on the mobo itself.
If worse comes to worst, take a picture of the mobo (whole or in sections)
Even if the video is integrated on the motherboard (VGA port is on the same metal backplate as the keyboard and mouse connectors (again, as I said in my previous post), you still need drivers, but we need to know which motherboard (and video) chipset to determine what those drivers are.
Ah sorry for any trouble I've caused, I'm terrible at this. HOWEVER, I've solved my problem. I read on another forum about a program called "Everest: Home Edition". It somehow identified my video-card and I updated it with the latest drivers.
