Having problem playing Avi and videos on cpu???

I recently rebooted my computer and now every time i try to open the folder where my avi videos are i get a Windows Explorer message, saying that windows explorer have encounted a problem and needs to close. How do i get this from keep happening and i can play my videos? Can anyone help?
