If you have a compaq Presario 700 hundred that turns off suddenly , leaves you with a black screen or just freezes ,your unit is likely over heating , I have had this problem but fingers crossed i seem to have resolved the problem . Make sure that your power settings are to laptop and that you download powernow dashboard to install the correct driver in xp.Next set your bios to boot from the CD last.Next you will have to remove the two keyboard screws and remove the top panel of the board and the keyboard to get acces to the processor and the fans.Remove the fan and clean , a drop of clipper oil under the seal will do wonders for your fan and reduce the noise. You will need to completly remove the plastic that includes the heat conductor from the heat sink unit that makes contact with the processor , place a high quality thermal paste on the base of heatsink and some on the processor and repalce everthing and hopefully you wont have any more problems...I also added some extra air vents with hand drill to an empty battery compartment and under the fan unit
Broken hinges are cheaply fixed with with some metal expoxy , in this model they are prone to break , the come in two parts , the resistance hinge attaches to the base and has a bar sticking out the second part attaches to the lcd, this is a sleeve , to fix the hinge just place some paper into the resistance hinge just to stop the expoxy getting into the hinge and freezing it ,the expoxy witch sets like steel is to be placed in the sleeve you push the resistance hinge bar into the sleeve and just push tight together ,remove any excess expoxy before it sets , what you want is the bar to set in the expoxy but not to let the expoxy go any further than the end of the sleeve , a small clamp will hold everything and the hinge is workable in about and hour ...all this cost less that 5 Euro.
