I first installed a new unused HD and tried to install XP to that. My logic was that I could always reinstall the Vista HD in the event of a terminal problem. Blue screen.
After talking to Western Digital I removed the HD totally and tried to run XP from the CD. Blue screen again, at precisely the same point. WD concluded that there was something on the motherboard that was preventing XP being run, though they had no suggestions as to what.
That's when I phoned Toshiba and after doing the usual rounds finally got through to someone who both understood what I was asking and was able to give an answer. Not that the answer was very useful - "this model will not run XP".
Logically I don't see that, but I can't see how to proceed any further.
You also need an archive extractor, like Winzip(www.winzip.com) or
WinRAR(www.winrar.com) to extract the setup driver files.
