sorry as this question must have been asked a thousand times!
got computer march 2009 AMD phenom quad 9650, 2.3GHz 3.25GB RAM, Nvidea 9600GT, creative soundblaster Audigy, 250Gb HD.
i tried a few different op systems (downloaded)to see which i preferred, vista and XP Pro, they kept freezing whilst playing timeshift and occaasional blue screen (nv4-disp.dll) downloaded most recent driver for nvidea.
proccessor running at around 58 deg C.
bought new op system XP Pro 2002 service pack 2,formatted and installed it, but still get game freeze.
am at wits end.
any ideas.
thanks Tommy.

The specs you posted are both incomplete and incorrect. You did not post what board you have, nor did you post how much ram you have (you do not have 3.25GB of ram; this is just what the crummy operating system you purchased can see).

However, based on the error, I am guessing that your video card is overheating. You might try clearing the dust out of it's cooler (and your CPU cooler while you are in there).

sorry for incomplete inf. 4gb of ram motherboard is Asrock K10N78 well that what it says on the box.
will do as you say and give it a clean, and will let you know if that works.
if it does is there a nother way to keep it cool?
"crummy op system"? what do you recommend?

thanks for the help.

Anything with x64 in the title should do; based on the displayed ram, you just got the 32-bit version.

You might also want to make sure the heatsinks on the mainboard are nice-n-cool (or at least not very hot), as ASrock sometimes cuts corners there.

I might be wrong...it might not even be overheating, just going with my gut based on seeing that error once before.

More than likely it's a video card driver problem. The error you get nv4-disp.dll is related to the nvidia card.

http://byronmiller.typepad.com/byronmill...d_windows_.html

Sometimes the latest driver won't work as well as an older driver, many times it's trial and error to find the right driver.

thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
cleaned out the dust from back of computer, graphics card seemed quite warm, the games now play for alot longer but still freeze now and again.
still get the odd nv-disp.dll bluescreen.
so would seem to be overheating any ideas on cooling for graphics?
how do i check and rectify problems with heatsinks ?
will try different drivers as you suggest.

once again thanks
tommy

seems no-one is repying but will post this incase anyone else having similar problems.

i was still having the same game freeze, and different blue screen issues ati3duag.dll. driver-irq-not-less-or-equal.
i upgraded my drivers still no fix, then on one forum read it could be ram problem. i downloaded free memtest86, ran this and lo and behold numorous ram errors within the first 5% of testing i tried each 2gb ram stick in each of the ram slots (individually) and still errors. purchased new ram and seems to have cleared the problems.

hope this is help to anyone.
