I have now hooked up my pc (amd x2, 4gb, ati radeon hd 3650) to my receiver via hdmi which is, in turn, hooked up to my tv (61" samsung). I have everything working but have questions about software. My plan is to watch downloaded movies (avi, mp4, etc)and my problem is what software to use. I have tried powerdvd, xtmc, etc). I love xtmc as watching a 61" screen, 15' away, on a 1920x1080 is a bugger and that program makes it easier. The problem with xtmc is that it has serious problems with sound (probably will get fixed in the next couple of iterations). Powerdvd plays files beautifully and the sound is correct but choosing the file to play is not an easy thing (teeny/tiny). powerdvd is also not really setup to deal with files even though it does it well. I am currently using powerdvd. I have tried a variety of other programs, from sourceforge, but the problem of the big screen, from 15 feet remains a pain. Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

My second problem is, if using powerdvd, whether to use truetheater or ati avivo. For instance, I could change the basic desktop to 1020x786 which would make reading the screen easier but would the powerdved truetheater force the screen to revert to 1920x1080 (on reflection this is probably a bogus question (well, maybe not?))

Anyway, any help would be appreciated - thank you...........

VLC is a nice player, it plays just about everything. Windows 7 media center is also rather nice, and looks right on a TV from across the room. If you don't want to upgrade to windows 7, you might like MediaPortal...it is just about the same as Win7MediaCenter...just less efficient.
