Im trying to nail down the process for ripping a Blu-Ray (HD-DVD as well, for that matter) disc to an image and then playing it back.

Im working with..

LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Drive
AnyDVD 6.5.4.9
Virtual Clone Drive 5.4.2.8
PowerDVD 8.0.2021

Right-click Rip to Image seems to work well for for creating the image, but when I mount the image with Virtual Clone Drive and try to play it back, I get errors. Unsupported format for Blu-Ray. With HD-DVD, a "file mode" information box pops up and it doesnt do anything when you click play.

Using a disc image isnt a must have. Ripping to a folder would be fine too. Id just prefer using images.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Alright. Upgraded to 6.5.5.5, re-ripped the disc, mounted and tried to play it back - same error. Unsupported format.

Any other ideas?
Should I have AnyDVD remove the protection when it rips, or leave it?
Should I have AnyDVD active on the virtual drive or disable it?
Are there any other settings that could be involved here?

Can't quite imagine why this is happening.
I can do the same, But using Nero image drive (From Nero 8 Ultra) to mount it without problems.

Two suggestions to try with AnyDVDHD removing the protection:-
1) Run AnyDVDHD but rip to image with IMGBURN, (you might need the Toshiba UDF drivers unless your running vista).

2) Try Deamon Tools to mount the image.

I do not expect that this is an issue with AnydvdHD though.
PowerDVD can be funny, but I'm using the same version as you.
That just leaves your mounting software.

More data..

No change when ripping via ImgBurn. Nice app tho, thanks for recommending it.

I decided to take a step back and try to play an original Blu-Ray disk in the drive. WONT PLAY. Same error.

To see if it was PowerDVD that was the issue, I installed TotalMedia Theater 3. Similar error trying to play back isos or actual disks. It WOULD play back a ripped disk in file format, though.

So I can playback a ripped disk that is in file format with TMT 3, but I cant playback an iso or an actual disk with either TMT 3 or PDVD 8.

This is on Windows 7 RC1, by the way.

Any ideas?

Ok, problem solved.

I do all of the work on my media center (IE everything but actually watching movies) from a remote desktop connection. The unsupported format is a result from trying to playback the movies over that remote connection. When I use the local console, the iso's play back just fine with PDVD8.

I have a similar problem. Still not yet resolved. I used DVDFab6 to rip the blu-ray Twister to both the hard drive folders and iso image. Power DVD could play back the main movie from the folder but got an error message of unsupported format when I tried to play it back from the image I mounted on the Virtue Clone drive. DVDFab6 could burn the main movie back onto a blank BD (without menus and extras) but it crashed when I tried to burn the entire image. Can any one suggest a software that can burn the entire disc blu-ray to blu-ray?

Imgburn can burn a bluray iso to blank BD-R, although I've never done it i'm sure i'm correct.
However, what size blank BD-R did you buy and what size is the ISO file. You might be trying to burn an iso that's too big.

You can strip a bluray disk down to main movie, get rid of unwanted audio and subtitles using Clown BD. (google it)
This is a GUI which employs programs:- EAC3to, tsmuxer and finally Imgburn. All free.
