Advent 6552 Laptop to Hisense 42 inch tv connection problem

I bought a new Advent 6552 Laptop a few weeks ago and i have a Hisense 42 inch tv but when i trien connecting the laptop to the tv using a DVI-D (from Laptop) to Hdmi connector and a hdmi cable connected to it the screen on both Laptop Nad tv keeps turning on and off after a second as if its trying to connect but cant , i have tried numerous display settings but to no avail if anyone could help it would be really appreciated many thanks
