my brother has got a macbook air, and has forgotten his password. if anyone can help explain how to sort it out i would be gratefull coz he said i can have it coz its been sat there for ages collecting dust. i have only eva had windoze and am struggling to understand the keyboard let alone how to access the OS - any advice welcome

so the only thing that i can think to do (i dont own a macbook air so i dont know compleatly how to do this) but his computers restore discs will help

1 put restore disc in any computer on that network and install the dvd tools or disc sharing or whatever its called (mac and or windows) then you want to open the application leave disc in disc drive

2 on the macbook air shut down and hold alt-option button next to command until a boot menu pops up and choose the network drive

3 once the disc has booted choose language and when the top menu appears choose utilities and password reset -> (yet again not compleatly sure of the name but its along those lines) and just run it from there

*i have never run it so i dont know what to do after it is launched but i am assuming that it is not hard probly just follow instructions*

1. Boot into single user mode (press Command-S at power on)
2. Type fsck -fy
3. Type mount -uw /
4. Type launchctl load
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
5. Type dscl . -passwd /Users/username password, replacing username with the
targeted user and password with the desired password.
6. Reboot
This allows you to reset the password in single user mode without booting
from the install media.
