If you are talking about the ide to sata gender changers that hook up to the hard drive/dvdrom?

I tried 3 different brands of those adapters and they are unreliable, there are times when they work good, but on some occasions the computer boot's up and the drives that have the adapters fail to show up on "my computer".

I don't use those anymore because because of there unreliability. The ones I used where in the $20.00 range. The more expensive ones might be more reliable.

One thing that I have been doing is using USB 2.0 ide adapters and hooking them up to the drives. You can run the cable to the back of the case and put them in the usb ports. These have 100% reliability and have about same speed as if connected directly to the motherboard.

This is the actual one I have been using.

If this is all to make your HP burner work, you might just spend $25 to get a new sata burner with lightscribe.

I use an adapter on an hdd in an external housing it's never given an issue i have to admit i was pessimistic before i bought it as i had a USB to IE adapter that didn't work as it should oddly enough the minispy i bought for the 360 recently had a USB to IDE adapter & it works great so it boils down to quality of product & lets face it anything made in China requires a fair amount of leap of faith without a safety net

What jony has listed or what killer suggests is your best bet since jony's one works ok it's a safe bet
