Hi, i recently thought of getting a new pc after my old one, which was broken, got fixed, i found that i couldnt run the games i wanted (cod4, bf2, bf2142) on decent fps, cod4 on lowest of the low(inc config to lower) is 50 fps, 5fps in smoke, 10 fps in enemy.
So anyways ( this is whole new pc)
Motherboard
Ram
Power Supply
Processer
Hard Drive
Mouse
Cooler Fan
Disc Drive
Graphics Card
Lemme know if i am missing something
I would be salvenging stuff from my old pc (keyboard, case((maybe)))
I also need a good place to buy Windows XP, i dont want vista.
Post your comments, and lemme know what the story is.
All this material is about, rough estimate of 600? (568.81?, not inc XP)
My price range is max of about 800.
I would prefer to keep it to about 600-750 though.

That build looks good, I would just go with a corsair psu, something like a 4850 and the newer phenom II dual-core processor. Its alot faster than what you chose. You probably dont need ram that good unless you plan on overclocking.
What case do you have?

The case, is my old one, its pretty big, im gonna measure it soon and see if the motherboard will fit, i would be doing some overclocking, but not alot, what do you recommend as ram? 2gb?
And how much wattage power supply would i need?

Did not know that... I thought higher MHz speed was only good for like extreme overclocking. Good to know..
If your willing to spend that much money on a 8800gts then spend alittle more on a 4870 which will Max out most games you throw at it
It'll be a good investment
http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=383505
otherwise the 4850 is a must over the 8800gts

The HD4850 is about 80-90% faster than the 8800GTS, the HD4870 is about 110-140% faster.

I knew they were both faster but....damn....
wonder why the 8800GTS still cost so much?

Because they haven't made them for about 18 months. That's the price Pixmania will have paid for theirs from nvidia, they won't want to sell it for much less than they paid. Just in countries like Ireland that don't sell as many enthusiast grade parts, old stuff like this gets left lying around in some stores.

Just to clear it up, AMD processors better benefit from lower latency RAM. Intels benefit from faster RAM, though lower latencies don't hurt.
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 4GHz(20 x 200) 1.5v 3000NB 2000HT, Corsair Hydro H110 w/ 4 x 140mm 1500RPM fans Push/Pull, Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5, 8GB(2 x 4GB) G.Skill RipJaws DDR3-1600 @ 1600MHz CL9 1.55v, Gigabyte GTX760 OC 4GB(1170/1700), Corsair 750HX

Jeff: Isn't it more AMD benefit from memory bandwidth? Decreasing latency ups this, but so does improving memory speed...
irishdef: You haven't chosen a hard disk drive, and the Optical drive you've chosen is USB, i.e. it has to be run outside the rest of the PC. If that's what you want then fine, but usually it isn't what people are after.;
You're also missing a case to assemble this build in, and presumably a keyboard as well since you bought a mouse.
Do you actually need the Zalman cooler? The stock cooler will do fine unless you plan a significant overclock of the CPU.
Look at my post above in this thread - I've already given you a case and HDD to get, you seemed to ignore it.

Yes this is true, but if you have to get faster memory, get the lowest latencies you possibly can. Exactly my reasoning behind my Mushkin XP memory in both of my quad core builds. The latencies are rock bottom. I could certainly stand to get some faster memory, but I like the ultra low latencies and the OCing.

Zalmans are overpriced, but they are still really nice. I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting one.

Well, as far as I'm aware lowest latency for PC6400 is CAS4, lowest for PC8500 is CAS5...
To be honest, the CNPS9300 isn't one of Zalman's best coolers, and Zalman's best is just a heavier, more expensive, noisier Freezer 7 Pro in terms of performance. The racket they make is absurd.
