Hi,

While burning CD/DVDs through any of the Nero suite packages the output to my sound card [from any source - web, media player, itunes]becomes distorted and slurred, can't see how there is a connection between CD/DVD writing and sound output,

Any ideas why?

Cheers, Sean

This has happened to me once or twice in the past, and at first I told myself it was probably because of processing strain: In other words, my processor was too focused on writing data to my DVD in order to ensure that my sound card was functioning properly. So I tried burning my disk images via software that sucked up less CPU and RAM and that fixed the problem for me.

Interestingly, however, a buddy of mine claims to have solved the problem by removing the Audio cable connecting the back of his DVD drive directly to his sound card. I personally COULDN'T have fixed mine that way, as the cable was never hooked up in the first place.

So you might try both and see what works best for you.

If you're still having problems or if you get it working fine, please post it here, that way others can read it and learn from it.

DMA, short for direct memory access, a technique for transferring data from main memory to a device without passing it through the CPU. Computers that have DMA channels can transfer data to and from devices much more quickly than computers without a DMA channel can. This is useful for making quick backups and for real-time applications.
